Doubting, dreaming.....
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;
But the silence was unbroken, and the darkness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, `Lenore!'
This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, `Lenore!'
Merely this and nothing more.

Vancouver has always been a hotbed of creativity
Lenore Herb from 2005, when she asked me to get involved with preserving this work. "Vancouver has always been a hotbed of creativity, especially music. During the '60's, little or no attention was paid to the bands of the music of the time, even though it rivaled any other city in the world. In 1978, I saw again a resurgence of new music and community ideas about the distribution of art. At the time, I felt driven to make these videos....I was dedicated to this work because I believed the documentation, distribution and exposure of Vancouver creativity locally and internationally was necessary...." The Moving Pictures of Doreen Grey
It's Alive!!!!
In 1978, the Vancouver Punk scene was ripped untimely from its mother's womb.
This blog is dedicated to the preservation of the video archival documentaries of that time, the visionary videos that were the product of artist Lenore Herb.
This is post one of the moving pictures of Doreen Grey.

The Sound and the Furies
The Furies were the first punk band in Western Canada. They were part of the initial stages of the critical mass of North American and British musicians that would become punk rock. Unlike later BC bands, they were not directly influenced by the Ramones or the Sex Pistols, but shared a similar abrasive sound and dislike for mainstream commercial rock. Their slogan was "Punk killed Elvis-You're next" which they used to liberally spray paint on the sides of Government liquor stores in the Kitsilano, and Mount Pleasant neighbourhoods of Vancouver, where they had rehearsal spaces.
