The Sound and the Furies
The Furies were the first punk band in Western Canada. They were part of the initial stages of the critical mass of North American and British musicians that would become punk rock. Unlike later BC bands, they were not directly influenced by the Ramones or the Sex Pistols, but shared a similar abrasive sound and dislike for mainstream commercial rock. Their slogan was "Punk killed Elvis-You're next" which they used to liberally spray paint on the sides of Government liquor stores in the Kitsilano, and Mount Pleasant neighbourhoods of Vancouver, where they had rehearsal spaces.
